On this day – 17 October 2016 with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia
When I travelled to India in October 2016 it was my intention to do a short 8 day recce for a teacher I could return to in future. On arriving in Mumbai a quick Google search for teachers or shops selling bamboo flutes gave me a short list of 3 places in the city. I hopped in a tuk-tuk and the first name on the list took me to Vrindaban Gurukul. Little knowing until some online research and my return for instruction the next day, that this was the home and school of world-renowned flute maestro and bansuri guru, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. I returned daily for teaching during that short magical visit. Guruji’s reminders to me, “softly…slowly…”, rings in my ears nearly every day. During that visit I was introduced to the heart moving depth and emotion of Hindustani Classical music.
Shortly after my return home, I took the decision to return to Vrindaban Gurukul for several months early in 2017 for more intense and fulltime study under his disciple Amrita Upreti. This journey and path which I started sharing back then, continues.
This week I am celebrating the past 3 years which has brought much magic, mystery and change to my life, as well as a passion for feathers and flutes.
For the next few days starting this evening just after 6pm, I’ll be sharing a small part of my daily practice via some live video feeds – a short recording of how I start and end most of my days with my practice and Sādhana – “this is where I am”
Evening times I have selected are today (Wednesday) and Thursday, I’ll be online just after 6pm and on Friday morning I’ll be on around 6am, just after sunrise. Videos will be 10 – 15 minutes and they will be saved and posted in case anybody else would like to follow at a different time.
A celebration of feathers and flutes <3
