I would like to share an extract from a letter I wrote a friend yesterday:
WATER FLOWING AGAIN
I was thinking of you as I drove home, but my attention was pulled towards the wet roads and mountains around me. It was still raining heavily as it seemingly has most of the day in this area. Especially over the Du Toits Kloof pass the clouds were low and heavy when I drove past this morning. Still heavy and consistently raining when I returned this evening. Dumping water for whatseems to be most of the day, waterfalls and rivers sprouting off the cliffs. Water streaming from the mountain into the Molenaars River which runs alongside the N1 highway and feeds into the Breede River further on.
That part of the river is flowing much stronger than I have seen for quite some time. Much stronger than at any point through the whole winter last year and since I made the unplanned move to this area over a year ago. Water coursing where plants and bushes have encroached due to a drying river bed. Pushing new paths or remembering old ones that have remained dry for more than one season. I crawled along taking in the sight of all this water running, knowing that it is still only May and winter is still to come. I pray this is a sign of what is to come, much needed rain, but also aware of the problems heavy weather also can bring.
Water. Consciousness. Aquarius. The moon and the feminine. Evolution and healing.
As I turned off the national road towards Goudini, I saw a rainbow. A huge bright rainbow. Its whole bow stretching across my windscreen. A wonderful sight with its full length arching across that part of the Breede Valley with the mountains behind it. I pressed on for the last few kilometres before home and was soon again wrapped in strong winds and heavy rain. The rain pushing sideways until I turned into the farm. My arrival perfectly timed for the gates still to be standing open before been closed for day. Saving me getting wet hopping in and out opening and closing them behind me. Welcomed by my Dad and a happy Coffee Cat. It is cold, and we suspect there is snow on the mountains behind us. When the clouds clear we will see. Maybe tomorrow.
